INDUSTRY LEADERS COME TOGETHER AND CREATE THE CDMA CERTIFICATION FORUM (CCF) Organization’s purpose is to develop a certification process for worldwide commercialization of CDMA2000 handsets - May 25, 2004

BALI, INDONESIA – May 27, 2004 – Representatives from more than a dozen industry-leading CDMA operators and mobile station vendors have created the CDMA Certification Forum™ (CCF ™) in order to establish and maintain a core global terminal certification process that helps ensure terminal quality and network compatibility across the globe.

Representatives from the CDMA Development Group (CDG), QUALCOMM Incorporated, Nokia, LG Electronics, NEWS IQ Inc., KTF, Indosat, KDDI Corp., SK Telecom, Huawei Technologies, Vivo, Telkom, Mobile-8, BSI and TTA (Telecommunications Technology Association) met here with the purpose of developing standards and processes regarding the commercialization of CDMA handsets. Currently, there are 219 CDMA operators and more than 100 CDMA handset vendors worldwide.

Over the course of two days in Bali, several important handset-related initiatives were discussed covering global handset requirements, modem layer testing and application layer testing. Those in attendance representing CDMA operators provided an overview of their handset acceptance test process in light of a proposed test process developed by the CCF. The first release of the Global Handset Requirements Document will be available for industry review in July 2004.
The objective of the CCF is to reach a global consensus on handset features and functions; qualify test facilities; and to publish a certification process as well as publish test cases for features and functions.

The philosophy of the CCF is to let market forces draw the industry to adopt CCF certification testing requirements. Test cases developed by the CCF to meet certification requirements will be rolled into the appropriate standards. The ability to develop and implement test cases will allow the CCF to quickly adapt to evolving technologies while working as much as possible to a single set of test standards.

The CCF members are comprised of four distinct groups: a Steering Group, which includes CDMA wireless telephony service providers; a Certification Group that features representatives of certification (regulatory) bodies; a Technical Group of terminal and network test equipment experts; and a Vendor Group comprised of device manufactures, infrastructure, terminal, and test equipment manufacturers as well as CDMA test labs. The steering committee will be driven by operators and handset vendors to carry out the CCF’s objectives.
